Types of LED track lighting Rail

Before we choose the LED track lighting, we need to know which track rail we will use. As where track lighting is used is actually determined by the track rail. For example, High voltage track rail (220-240V AC) is suitable for museums, art galleries, etc.

Low voltage track rail (12V / 24V ) is suitable for spaces such as miniature windows and display cabinets; and curved track rails are suitable for special occasions that require large-angle bending.

There are many different types of track light rail, which can be categorized in different ways. In general, it is clearer to categories them by voltage. So, we can classify track rails into two main categories: high voltage and low voltage.

High voltage LED track light rail

- 2 wires

 It just has a neutral wire and a live wire, not earth wire.

- 3 wires

It has a live wire, a neutral wire and an earth wire, it is the most common in commercial lighting, which has been applied for many years from the era of metal halide lamps to the current era of LED lighting. 

- 4 wires

It has three live wires and one neutral wire, so it can be composed of multiple circuits to meet the requirements of group control of luminaires on a single track. This is also the more commonly used track configuration for museums and art galleries and commercial spaces.

There are surface mounting type and embedded mounting type. With the 4-wire, 3-circuit track, it is possible to switch between different effects by setting different luminaires on the same track on different circuit.

- 5 wires

Rarely to used, 3-circuit track hybrid system tracks, just find from ERCO, The fifth wire of the five-wire guide is slightly thinner and is the protective earth wire. The remaining four thick wires can be connected to three circuts, or only one circuit + DALI signal line.

- 6 wires

The four thick wires of the six-wire guide rail are used for three circuits, and the two thin wires are DALI signal lines. It is mainly used for high-end museums and art galleries, and can meet the requirements of both circuit division and system control.

- Curved track rails

It is a special modelling and craftsmanship of the track, suitable for some special modelling requirements of the track can be curved bending occasions.

- Separate small track rail

When only one-track light is needed in a certain area and the position does not need to be adjusted frequently, these small independent tracks can be used to allow the fixtures to be surface mounted, avoiding the wastefulness and unattractiveness of using one track for one light.

Low voltage track lighting rail

- Mini 2 wires track rail

It is small in size and is generally used in display spaces such as miniature windows and showcases. It is generally connected to 12V or 24V voltage. The purpose of this design is to facilitate the flexible connection of multiple lamps on one track and facilitate loop control. Mini tracks are mostly installed in places where people can touch them, and low voltage is also for safety considerations.

- Magnetic track rail

Due to its ease of installation, matching lamps and lanterns modularity and other features and advantages, in the high-end office, commercial clubs and other places are very popular with designers. The main design principle of magnetic track is to use the positive and negative magnetic poles to fix the track and lamps.
